Inaugurated On April 2008 Just a few blocks east of Minute Maid Park, the gallery is located downtown Houston and near Navigation St. Canal Street Gallery features the original works of all the artists from board members. Situated in a refurbished space, the gallery features rotating work from resident and visiting artists in the front.Canal Street Gallery is located in the original immigrant settlement, which thrived on high banks of Buffalo Bayou before the City of Houston was created. Before World War I Canal Street was known as German Street, in recognition of the earliest European settlers who ventured into this new American frontier. The building, which is over sixty years old, was leased to a private blood bank for over fifteen years before the property was purchased and repositioned for retail development. Over the past fourteen years over 900 new residents have moved into loft apartments and new townhomes within one block of Canal Street Gallery. Within the building, Trentino Gellato, Malies Bakery, Amaya Roasting (Catalina Coffee), and Dynamic Perception all share space within the building. Across the street, One Americas Plaza office building provides commercial office space for marketing firms, attorneys, and other professional enterprises., together with a reception hall capable of handling events for over 500 people. Interested in Participating with us? Canal Street Gallery comprises diverse artists working together to develop and promote their art. We offer two levels of participation. One, as a resident member, shares the group benefits and responsibilities one year at a time. The second, exhibitor artists, has the opportunity to exhibit as an individual or group for a limited time. New resident members and exhibitor artists are subject to approval before they are invited to participate.Roxanna Hammond |
